Candace McCollett, originally from Maine, has lived in Colorado Springs since 2003.  Married for 6 adventurous years, she has home-birthed two energetic children, a freckled-faced, music-loving girl in 1997 and hockey-playing, good-mannered boy in 2002.

Candace teaches childbirth education classes that are very eclectic in nature, pulling information from Bradley, Kitzinger and Ina May Gaskin.  Her methodology focuses on breathing techniques and many different comfort techniques that she has learned from her experience attending births as a doula, both in the hospital setting and the home setting.  Classes are offered mostly in the evenings 6:30pm-9:00pm in her home on the northwest side of Colorado Springs.  The next class starts on THUR 2/8/07.  Please call or email for private instruction options.  Classes are $200 for an 8 week course and includes multi-dimensional instruction, a ten chapter student notebook, and unlimited phone / email support.

Candace also provides doula services for your labor, birth and postpartum period.  This unique service is $450, which includes 2-3 prenatal visits, attendance at your birth, and 1-2 postpartum visits.  For a combination of both childbirth education and doula services there is a discount of $50.  Doula services will also include:
  • A discussion of your preferences for labor support, pain control and interventions.
  • Assistance in researching and writing a birth plan.
  • Hand-outs covering labor and birth positions, breastfeeding information, and postpartum care for mom and baby
  • Professional referrals and resources will be available to you at any time.
  • Access to a lending library (books, videos, tapes).
  • Emotional, physical and informational support during labor, birth and postpartum.
  • Use of her labor support tools such as hot/cold rice packs, birth ball, aromatherapy oils, massage oils, music, her caring hands, and her reassuring voice.
  • Help initiating breastfeeding as soon as possible after birth.
Candace believes that KNOWLEDGE and SUPPORT are the keys to a positive birth experience!  She acknowledges that each labor and birth is an unique experience and there is no ONE right way to have a baby.  Her background includes her love for natural medicine, a B.A. in Biology, a Childbirth Education Certificate through the Birth Connection, Labor / Birth Doula training through CAPPA (certification in process), Neonatal Resuscitation Certificate through NRP, CPR & First Aid Certified, and her experience working with Dr. Robert Wolfson, a perinatolotgist.  She currently shadows a homebirth midwife, as her assistant, and she is looking forward to becoming a midwife someday, when her own two children are older.

Therefore, Candace would like to offer you, or some one you know, confidence-building childbirth education classes and memory-making doula services.  Please contact her for more information.  She looks forward to talking with you!
