Gentle guidance, loving touch and trusting the wisdom of the body are the keys to successful birthing in many cultures. These valuable assets have been misplaced in our own culture. Fear and high tech management of childbirth has become the norm. Childbirth is an amazing and empowering moment in a women’s life and a place in time that can draw a couple together, creating a strong family bond. My dream is to start hearing the tales of beautiful birth and to start seeing the fear recede. This is one of the reasons I have chosen the path of the doula. As a massage therapist for the past 12 years I incorporate physical relief strategies to support mom in labor, as well as provide knowledge and emotional support to my clients throughout the entire process. Getting to know my clients and what type of birth they desire is top priority to me, so that I may help them achieve the birth experience that they envision. I do this through 2 to 3 prenatal meetings. I also offer prenatal massage at a discounted rate to my doula clients to help encourage familiarity and comfort.
